According to questionnaire results of PwC Company, in the coming five years, foreign investment would still favor mergers and acquisitions in Asian financial services, where China takes the lead, followed by India.
There were 230 Asian principals of financial service companies such as banks, insurances and securities accepted such questionnaires, 3/4 of which held that their companies in Asia would carry out significant financial activities of mergers and acquisitions in the coming five years, up by 9% than two years ago.
The main reasons of their confidence in Asian financial service industry were as follows: in 2006, market values of banks, insurances and securities companies in Asia had increased USD64b in 2006, up by 66% year-on-year; the growth of Asian economy was pretty fast; and hot securities market raised premium rate and promoted the growth of consumer credit. However, there were some obstacles in mergers and acquisitions, such as the increase of capitalization, regulatory restrictions and shortage of attractive merger targets.
