The Third Beijing Forum on the Modernization of Economic Circulation in China has been held recently. The forum, or a high-level summit on the strategy of logistic revitalization was sponsored jointly by Beijing Wuzi University and the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the country¡¯s only legal large-scale comprehensive social organization.

The logistics industry restructuring is of vital importance, as it is not only required by the industry¡¯s own development but by the expansion of services and other support trades as well as by the growing consumption and employment absorption, noted those who partook the forum. It is also significant for spurring industrial retooling, transforming the mode of economic growth and increasing the competiveness of national economy.

In revitalizing logistics industry, great efforts should be taken to make it the society-oriented and specialized, to foster a batch of key logistics enterprises or firms with relatively strong competitive edges and to spur on the development of fuel, mining, automobile, farm produce and medicine industries.

Meanwhile, immense efforts should focus on the logistics infrastructure development to raise the logistics-based standards and to reduce the material cost, or to reduce the flow cost of transport and storage, and to establish and further improve the policy setup for the growth of logistics industry.

Importance should be attached to the training of competent logistics personnel, forum participants acknowledged, and the training of postgraduates majored in logistics should be speeded up so as to help spur the healthy development of this new speciality.

Moreover,¡°incubation¡± bases should be set up for the training of qualified personnel and more laboratories added to the institutions of higher education in the realm of logistics, and there should be varied forms of cooperation between logistics schools and relevant enterprises.

Furthermore, the development of emergency logistics industry should be beefed up. The road for joint army-civilian, army-locality efforts for the growth of emergency logistics system has to be explored and its mechanism for a unified command and coordinated operation to be established, so as to systematize and standardize its setup and to improve the logistics distribution of emergency reserve.
